"Supervisor, mentor, colleague are words that interchangeably describe Dr. Felicia Owens as she has a gift of fluidly vacillating between the three. I first met Dr. Owens when I was a masters level intern starting my first clinical internship. I had never counseled a person in my life, while she has counseled many. Although at very different points in our career, she made it her duty to take me under her wing. Not only clinically, but in my professional development as well, even down to the way I dressed, reminding me to always present myself as a professional. I’ve had the benefit and pleasure of  being supervised and mentored by Dr. Owens  as she effortlessly mentors and supervises, while not loosing the spirit of colleagueship. She never placed me in a position below her. Instead, she set the standard high, just as she would for herself, and graciously met me where I was while simultaneously guiding me to reach a level of excellence. Her warm, friendly demeanor makes her so easy to get along with. She’s reflective and present which make her relatable. Yet, her wisdom shines through the words that she speaks. I remember sitting in her office one day, on the verge of tears because of an incident that occurred at the office and In that moment, she embodied the role of clinician, colleague, supervisor and mentor all in one. I vividly recall her saying “one day you’ll have a young woman in the seat you’re sitting in and you’ll be in my seat, and you’ll be able to help her; Just like I’m helping you....” Her passion for what she does extends far beyond her clients. It’s genuine and it shows in the way that’s she cares for those that look up to her. I am grateful for having met Dr. Owens and for all the things she’s poured into me. I’m definitely a better person and clinician because of it."

"I first met Dr. Owens during an interview for my Doctoral Internship program. Because of her authenticity, honesty, and colorful personality, I immediately knew she’d be someone that I could trust and go to for guidance. Upon accepting an Internship position,Dr. Owens became one of my supervisors. However, she has been much more than just a supervisor to me. Dr. Owens has been a friend, a mentor, a source of laughter, and a spiritual counselor for me. She has helped me grow tremendously as a mental health professional and as a woman of God. I have had the pleasure and privilege of  personally knowing Dr. Owens as well as being her clinical supervisor for the past several years. Dr. Owens is a deeply compassionate and caring professional. I am consistently impressed by Dr. Owen’s commitment to help people learn to be kind and loving towards themselves and others. She is exquisitely sensitive to the many losses that people can go through in life and is available to help people mourn these losses. Dr. Owens takes a wholistic approach to her work—she does a beautiful job helping people integrate their spirituality into their emotional self-care to be the best version of themselves. She helps people recognize that there is strength and power in reaching out for help. Dr. Owens is available to help people from all backgrounds and is particularly skilled at understanding and helping people from culturally diverse backgrounds. She successfully developed and runs a Parent Support Program for minority families at Smart Love Family Services in the Oak Park community. Parents have expressed deep gratitude for Dr. Owens and how she is helping their families be stronger and happier.
